Genre Conventions: Contents Page

  1. Again, lacks detail. What sort of information is given in the text? What sort of images are used? What about the layout?

  2. In a word it's a mess.
    Nice to have a spread for a contents page but it would make more sense to have the overlapping pics (with a drop shadow) going across the top of the spread and no need for the p for page, readers are most likely smart enough to realise the number refers to the page.
    List the contents as clean straightforward typography and as this is a spread there's room for a bit of teaser copy under each feature headline. The regular stuff in each issue can just name and page number.
    Include the staff, imprint and anything else on the content spread, too.

  3. Oh yes, forgot to say...for heaven's sake don't use the word Contents on the page/spread, obviously it's the Contents what else could it be.
    Interesting exercise: look at magazines and see how many of them use the word and sometime huge.
